How an Automotive Enterprise Exited Its Data Center On Time and Avoided Contract Penalties
Embedded JRD engineers joined the client's own teams to plan, migrate and validate core workloads, databases and application tiers before a hard decommissioning deadline.
A Fixed Deadline, a Full Data Center, and Not Enough Hands
The client is a US automotive enterprise running core applications, databases and infrastructure from a data center it had committed to leave. The decommissioning date was fixed by contract.
The Challenge
Missing the cutoff would have triggered financial penalties, forced a lease extension and added months of running two environments at once. The client's engineers were already committed to day-to-day operations, and it lacked the specialist migration capacity to move everything in time. Whatever help it brought in had to work inside its teams without disrupting the business.
Four workstreams, one hard deadline
Planning and Architecture
- Mapped workload and application dependencies with the client's engineering leads
- Designed migration paths for each application tier and database
- Set a phased cutover schedule working back from the decommissioning date
Migration Execution
- Migrated core workloads, databases and application tiers under an aggressive timeline
- Moved in phases to keep business systems running throughout
- Tracked every phase against the deadline, with regular status to leadership
Validation and Cutover
- Ran functional testing and performance benchmarks before each cutover
- Verified operational parity after each move against pre-migration baselines
- Kept a rollback plan ready for every cutover window
Embedded Team Model
- Placed JRD specialists directly into the client's existing teams
- Worked in the client's tools, processes and change controls from day one
- Handed over documentation and runbooks at decommissioning
On Time. Under Penalty. Out of the Building.
Every migration phase finished inside the schedule window, and the target infrastructure was decommissioned before the contractual cutoff. The client avoided the penalties, the lease extension and the cost of running two environments. Its own engineers stayed focused on daily operations while JRD's specialists carried the migration.
